Here is another in our continuing series of articles about things going on around Rochester. Enjoy!
Greece residents are still cleaning up the aftermath of a severe storm and high winds on Wednesday, June 18. The storm damaged trees, scattered debris, and even whipped power lines into oncoming traffic. “We heard a loud crack and saw a huge fire burst outside. There were two cars that were trapped under the power lines and one guy was yelling because the lines were zapping over his head,” a witness told WHEC.
The power lines smashed the glass of two cars’ back windows. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Even so, the incident left Elmwood Avenue, Lyell Avenue, and Route 531 temporarily closed.
Several homes and businesses also lost power during the storm, which some compared to “a small tornado,” according to 13WHAM. Rochester Gas & Electric (RGE) restored power in most areas by late afternoon or night. Some employees, however, remained stranded at closed businesses. Another local business, Caraglio’s Pizza, was forced to throw out cheese, sauce, and dough due to the loss of electricity.
Water damage also ravaged many Rochester and Greece residences. Homes without basement and/or foundation waterproofingare highly susceptible to water damage and destroyed personal belongings during severe storms.
