Here is another article in our series on things going on around Rochester.
Becker’s Hospital Review has released the 2014 edition of its “100 hospitals with great women’s health programs” list, which features two Rochester facilities.
The hospitals listed offer outstanding health services that are geared towards women, such as obstetrics, gynecology, and woman-focused cancer care, among other women’s health needs. They’re the types of facilities that specialize in common procedures exclusive to women, like a hysterectomies, which are the most common surgical procedure used to treat uterine fibroids.
Becker’s Hospital Review chose both Highland Hospital and the University of Rochester Medical Center based on the clinical accolades and recognition they’d received. The publication accounted for the women’s health excellence awards and honors given by such agencies as UNICEF’s Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, U.S. News and World Report, CareChex, and Healthgrades.
“Highland Hospital, which dates back to 1889, offers a wide variety of women’s health services from wellness checks to diagnostic services to advanced treatment options,” said the publication. “Some services include pelvic surgery, gynecologic oncology, gynecologic urology, menopause management and genetic counseling, to name a few.”
Becker’s included Highland on its list thanks to CareChex ranking it sixth in the nation for medical excellence in women’s health for 2014, and because U.S. News and World Report recognized Highland for its high-performing gynecology department.
“The department of obstetrics and gynecology at University of Rochester Medical Center offers services in gynecology, gynecologic oncology, maternal-fetal medicine, obstetrics and pelvic health and continence specialties,” the publication also reported. “The medical center also hosts the Strong Fertility Center, the longest-standing in vitro fertilization center in upstate New York, the URMC Fibroid Center and the URMC Midwifery Group.”
The Surgical Review Corp. and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists recognized Strong Memorial Hospital, which is part of URMC, as an AAGL Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology. U.S. News and World Report also nationally ranked Strong in gynecology for 2014-15.
