Here is another article about things going on around Rochester.

The preliminary hearing for a woman charged in a 2013 car crash that killed a Tioga, PA man has been rescheduled for next month. According to the Star Gazette, the preliminary hearing for 29-year-old Jacklyn Walker of Watkins Glen has been continued until January 22.

Walker was charged in November with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, accident involving death, and improper stop. All of these charges stem from the same accident, which occurred on July 28, 2013. Her car was stopped in the roadway on Corwin Road in Farmington when Brett Gee, 46, of Tioga hit her car on his motorcycle.

Walker fled the scene of the accident before police got there but her vehicle was later identified. WBNG reported last year that Gee, a salesman and father of two, died at the scene.

She is now being held in the Tioga County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. The preliminary hearing was initially scheduled for early December but was continued until late January in Elkland at Magisterial District Court.

The National Safety Council estimates that about 35,200 auto-related deaths occurred in 2013.

The New York Times reports the number of deaths that resulted from motorcycle accidents was actually less than usual last year. According to data gathered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 4,668 motorcycle deaths in 2013, which is about 6.5% less than 2012.

This is not to be taken as a trend though, because the 2013 statistic is just about in line with 2011, and there are a number of environmental factors that contribute to causes of motorcycle deaths.
